Chalk Paint Pumpkins with Fabric Leaves

Last year I pinned this image of a beautiful fall mantel. It did not have the usual fall colors but rather light green pumpkins , a green wreath and just a touch of white. There was something so clean and yet so soothing about it. I thought that this year I wanted to bring in a similar color scheme to my early fall mantel. I had some pumpkins that I had purchased about 7 years ago that needed a little makeover.

They were a yellowish white color and had accumulated their fair share of scuffs and dents over the years. The first thing I did was to paint them a bright white using some Americana chalk paint. I started off using a regular sponge brush but ended up buying a spouncer brush (bought mine from Walmart for $3) which I liked much better.

To make the leaf, I used the leaf from the 3d pumpkin paper basket by Lori Whitlock. I wanted to make the stem of the leaf longer so that I could wrap it around my pumpkin stem. To do so I made a small rectangle and a small circle and positioned them by the original leaf circle stem thing. I wanted to have a circle at the end so that I could have a good spot to put my hot glue. I welded the leaf, rectangle and circle together. I double clicked the shape so that I could edit the points. I went through and deleted the points that were out of place. I then cut the shape out of fabric that I had ironed onto a piece of Silhouette brand clean cut interfacing. I wrapped each fabric leaf around the pumpkin stems and hot glued the little circle on the end of the leaf stem onto the back of each leaf.

I thought it would be neat if I was able to take the fabric leaf off of the pumpkins and put on a new color if I wanted to later on. I love the look of all the pumpkins lined up on my mantel!
